The series is helmed by Bhav Dhulia and was created by Special Ops and Baby director Neeraj Pandey. The creators of this show attempted to tap into a genre with a desi plot but an international aesthetic. In terms of plot, characters, and production quality, The Freelancer is an excellent show that is packed with excitement and action. It is a true extraction story with captivating details.

What is The Freelancer’s narrative?
After several incidences in the past, Avinash Kamat (Mohit Raina), a suspended Mumbai Police officer, flees the country. after receiving training at the Royal Military College in London, turns mercenary. In India, no one is aware of him.
He spends most of his time on missions abroad. Wife Mrinal seeks treatment for her severe depression after their son is killed in an accident. Except for his wife and his missions, Avinash’s life is now completely empty. However, something happens in the interim, forcing him to go back to India.
Avinash hears that Senior Inspector Inayat Khan’s (Sushant Singh) daughter, Alia (Kashmira Pardeshi), has been kidnapped by ISIS in Syria. Avinash travels to India where he meets Sabina, Inayat’s wife (Ayesha Raza Mishra), and decides to rescue Aaliya. Dr. Arif Khan (Anupam Kher), who specialises in intelligence, assists Avinash. This issue has also caught the attention of Indian and international organisations due to the suicide that occurred in front of the embassy. In order to free Aaliya from Syria, Avinash tries to enlist the aid of the CIA.
How are the dialogues and the script?
SOS, Hell, Flashback, and Martyr are the only four episodes of The Freelancer‘s first season that have been made available. Each episode, which lasts around an hour, introduces viewers to fresh advancements. The storyline and dialogue for the series were written by Ritesh Shah and Jenzir Ali Fida, and they are based on Shirish Thorat’s novel A Ticket to Syria.
Avinash, a.k.a. Freelancer, is dispatched on a mission by the Israeli agency Mossad at the start of the first episode’s narrative. This mission establishes the tone of the show and provides us a preview of what to expect in the upcoming episodes.
The story moves to Mumbai after the credits have finished, shocking viewers with the shocking incident of suspended Inayat Khan being shot and killed by the police in front of the American Embassy.
Inayat took this action for what reason? At this point, it doesn’t make sense, but as things go on, layers of Inayat’s passing and Inayat’s significance in Mohit Raina’s life are exposed. The inquiry and answer are presented in reverse order in the script. The excitement of the moments is not diminished by this series of questions and replies.
In spite of the fact that films like The Kerala Story and Alone have brought attention to the plight of an Indian prisoner in ISIS’s clutches in Syria, The Freelancer stands out.
There are two tracks for the series. One track focuses on Avinash’s attempts to save Aaliya, while the other one explores their relationship in the past. Their tight friendship, Avinash’s intense bond with young Aliya, and their conflict with Maharashtra’s dishonest Home Minister all contributed to their success. The four episodes do not, however, provide any information regarding the cause of Inayat and Avinash’s suspension.
There are various intriguing sub-plots in addition to the primary narrative of rescuing Alia from Syria. One of them is Farhat Khala, an ISIS recruiter in Mumbai who is in charge of brainwashing the Fazal family. Gestures speak volumes about the political and police establishment’s hostility against Inayat Khan. The series’ dialogue is realistic. Nowhere does it appear to be a sermon.
How do the actors perform?
The Freelancer, Mohit Raina, is the ideal choice. Such characters have appeared frequently in English-language films, but not as frequently in Indian ones. This concept was successfully introduced by Mohit. He has become physically and facially immersed in the role of a mercenary.
It gives me hope to see him on TV as The Freelancer. Inayat Khan’s personality is affected by Sushant Singh. He has been excellent in emphasising the character’s powerlessness as a father whose daughter is missing.
The portrayal of Alia by Kashmira Pardeshi is outstanding. Kashmera does a good job of capturing Alia’s feelings of fear, betrayal, and fear. As Mohsin, Navneet Malik delivered a terrific performance. This character comes in a wide variety. In the upcoming episodes, the character is anticipated to exhibit a range of emotions.
Anupam Kher takes his role as Dr. Khan, a Middle East expert and intelligence specialist, very seriously. His scenes work well despite his lacklustre character. His scenes with Indian intelligence agent Raghavendra Sethu in particular are entertaining.
There aren’t many scenes for Radha Bakshi, the CIA agent played by Sarah Jane Dias. In the upcoming episodes, this character’s significance will grow. The supporting character Farhat Khala, played by Balaji Gauri, is the most striking.
Shivers are produced by Farhat’s relationships with Avinash, Sabina, and the Fazal family. Within the parameters of their respective roles, Ayesha Raza Mirza as Aaliya’s mother Sabina and Manjari Fadnis as Avinash’s wife Mrinal have both performed admirably.
The television series has high production quality. The fusion of the scenes reveals grandeur and expanse. Recreated scenes from ISIS’s home in Syria appear authentic. These images create fear. The path taken by Bhava Dhulia is sound. However, Neeraj Pandey’s influence can be seen in every scene.
